MovingBox

Completed
iOS Productivity Home Inventory AI

MovingBox was the first app I published to the App Store as an independent developer.

The idea came about in mid-2024 when OpenAI released the first AI models with vision capabilities. I had used various home inventory apps for years, but always fell off track with my inventory project due to the insane amount of work it took to photograph and then manually log the details of every item in my home (especially those tiny serial numbers). The ability to not only recognize the type of object in the photo (totally possible with Apple’s Vision APIs) but to also recognize the specific make/model and estimated replacement cost was huge. One API call can get you everything you need for an item’s inventory record.

Within a few weeks I had a proof of concept up and running (and it was glorious). Nothing like it was yet on the App Store, but unfortunately some other projects took priority until I was able to productize it the following year.

MovingBox hit the App Store at the end of April 2025, about a week before my second child was born and just before Deep Dish Swift 2025; giving me the opportunity to show it off to some new friends.

Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think!
